My family are trying to look for a good affordable home in Long island/ Nau County?

Basically we are looking for good,safe clean and convenient neighborhoods, close to stores,restaurants and of course NYC. The three of us work in NYC (college point,ny) we are looking for a 3 bedroom home, our maximum price for a home is $300,000 i managed to locate lots of affordable neighborhoods in LI/Nau however as per my research they are pretty much bad neighborhoods and also areas we visited (Hempstead,new hyde park etc...) i really do need help in identifying good Nau County neighborhoods that are affordable and fit to our description , i would very much appreciated.
