How to be a successful flirt?

Ok heres the deal, im new to the whole nightlife seen meaning going to dance clubs, bars, etc. and i have no clue how to even approach woman? I am 19 currently serving in the us airforce, and not to sound y i know im not ugly, im not the the most good looking guy either but i know i should be able to get mine. But my first night at the club it was like a dissaster cause i felt like a rookie amongst vets! Someone please give me some pointers on what it takes! Im not trying to be a huge player just trying to get in the groove.
