Why did Mr Hyde kill himself in the short story?

This has been driving me nuts ever since I read this in my English literature cl at school. My teacher didn't have a good answer, and my curiosity doesn't stop. It's "The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde" I'm talking about by the way. Seriously, someone, I need to know!
