I really fancy this lad but dont know wether he fancies me or not.?

Theres a boy in my school year, and im not sure wether he fancies me or not. I really fancy him, but I try not to show it. He looks at me alot during lessons, and he's always joking around me and talking but I dont know wether hes just trying to be a friend, or trying to show me he fancies me too. I know people say talk to him and get to know him, but the thing is im not that confident when it comes round to that kind of thing, and if I ask him out, im afraid he will reject me and laugh and tell everyone, im also worried that if I do go out with him, and he wants to go out with me my friends will feel like im choosing him over them, and I have never kissed/snogged someone before and I dont know how too!!
